‘Lookout’ leads off SXSW

'Castro,' 'Left Eye' to also debut at fest

“The Lookout,” the directorial debut of screenwriter Scott Frank, will open the 2007 South by Southwest Film Conference & Festival on March 9 in Austin, Texas.

Pic, which will be released by Miramax on March 23, stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a physically disabled young man who becomes the unlikely and unpredictable addition to a bank heist planned by Matthew Goode. Jeff Daniels also stars.

Other films debuting at SXSW include Kiwi black comedy “Black Sheep” and documentaries “The Last Days of Left Eye,” “638 Ways to Kill Castro,” “Manufacturing Dissent” and “What Would Jesus Buy?”

Festival will announce its full selection of feature films Feb. 6 and short films Feb. 13.
