Award will now be open to filmmakers worldwide

ROME — The Locarno Film Festival is going global with its Leopards of Tomorrow, transforming the section dedicated to short and midlength films by debut filmmakers into a single international competition.

Leopards of Tomorrow had been divided into two subsections, one devoted to Swiss works and one focusing on a different territory each year, complemented by a retrospective.

The section will now be a single competish open to all countries.

Past Leopards of Tomorrow discoveries include helmers Fatih Akin, Paul Thomas Anderson, Francois Ozon and Barbara Albert.
