Lepine-Karnik takes EAO chair

Commin steps down

LONDON — European Audiovisual Observatory has tapped Valerie Lepine-Karnik for the post of chairperson of its advisory committee.

Lepine-Karnik will also continue in her role as director general of the Intl. Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). Elections for the post took place at the advisory committee’s annual meeting June 5.

Lepine-Karnik takes over from outgoing chair Jean-Paul Commin, prexy of the Intl. Video Federation.

“European audiovisual production is at a major crossroads, with profound challenges ahead,” said Lepine-Karnik. “The need for reliable tools to analyze and decipher the audiovisual environment — present and future — is more crucial than ever.”

European Audiovisual Observatory was set up by the Council of Europe in December 1992. Its mission is to gather and distribute information on the audiovisual industry in Europe.
