Koch Lorber has acquired U.S. rights to Ramin Bahrani’s “Chop Shop,” a festival fave since its Directors Fortnight debut in Cannes.
Pic will play at Gotham’s Film Forum in February, with a DVD release to follow.
The Big Beach-produced “Chop” is Bahrani’s follow-up to “Man Push Cart,” also distribbed on DVD by Koch Lorber. The helmer was recently nominated for the “Someone to Watch” award at this year’s Spirit Awards.
“Chop Shop” centers on a 12-year-old Latino street orphan who works at one of the many auto-body repair shops in Willets Point, aka the “Iron Triangle,” a vibrant industrial section of Queens.
