Meister's first project is love story 'Beauty'
Kim So-hee, former managing director at LJ Film and one of Korea’s more internationally minded producers, has launched new production shingle Meister Film.Company’s first project in development is “A Beauty in My Heart,” about the love between an 18th-century painter who is expelled from the Royal Academy for painting nudes, and the mistress of a powerful aristocrat. Other items developed by Kim include a coming-of-age fantasy and a futuristic epic about an American and a Korean facing the fall of civilization. Latter project has drawn interest from a U.S. television studio as a possible TV show, though negotiations are at an early stage. Kim emphasizes that the split with LJ Film was on friendly terms. “I remain a solid partner and friend to LJ, and will continue to be of service to them whenever they need me.” As she did at LJ, Kim intends to continue working with “quality” directors who possess a strong individual style. Kim was an instrumental partner in setting up major U.S.-Korean co-production “The Julia Project” with Focus Features, which is scheduled to be directed by Deepa Mehta (“Water”). Meanwhile, Kim also is temporarily repping three projects developed by Kim Mi-hee, co-president of leading production house Sidus FNH. Titles include $4.5 million thriller “A Tale of a Father Ghost,” about a shaman who teams up with a spirit to rescue the man’s son; action title “72 Hermits in Dumun,” directed by renowned martial arts choreographer Jung Doo-hong; and Kim Yong-kyun’s (“The Red Shoes”) $9.8 million historical piece “Eternal Flame,” which is being developed simultaneously as a film and a musical.
