Whitaker, Mirren awarded acting honors

The Kansas City Film Critics Circle have selected “United 93″ its top pic for the year and director Paul Greengrass as best helmer.

Acting nods went to the kudo season’s popular choices of Forest Whitaker for “Last King of Scotland” and Helen Mirren for “The Queen.” Pic’s Michael Sheen took home supporting honors, as did Catherine O’Hara for comedy “For Your Consideration.”

Best Original Screenplay: Michael Arndt, “Little Miss Sunshine”
Best Adapted Screenplay: “The Departed,” screenplay By William Monahan, adapted from the Hong Kong film “Infernal Affairs” by Alan Mak & Felix Chong
Best Animated Film: “Over The Hedge,” produced By Dreamworks Animation, directed by Tim Johnson & Kerry Kirkpatrick
Best Foreign Language Film: “Letters From Iwo Jima,” directed By Clint Eastwood, screenplay by Iris Yamashita
Best Documentary: “An Inconvenient Truth,” directed By Davis Guggenheim
Vince Koehler Award For Outstanding Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror Film: “Pan’s Labyrinth”
