Actor to receive star of the year award

John Cusack has been tapped to receive the star of the year award at exhib confab ShowEast, which unspools today in Orlando, Fla.

Nod will be presented Wednesday in conjunction with the screening of “Grace Is Gone,” toplining Cusack as a father whose wife died while fighting in Iraq.

The Weinstein Co. releases the drama, which it acquired at Sundance this year, on Dec. 7. It was directed and written by James C. Strouse and produced by New Crime Prods.

Cusack’s body of work spans more than two decades, including this summer’s sleeper hit “1408.” The Dimension Films horror title grossed more than $70 million domestically.

He’s next in theaters on Nov. 2 with romantic comedy “Martian Child.” He recently wrapped production on “Brand Hauser: Stuff Happens,” for which he co-wrote the screenplay with Jeremy Pikser and Mark Leyner.

ShowEast runs through Thursday at the Orlando World Center Marriott.
