Chilean indie distrib Chilena Four Films has bought 50% of leading indie Bazuca Films to form B Films. With this move, B Films becomes the largest indie distrib in Chile, controlling 12% of the market.
B Films’ slate includes “Perfume,” “Little Children” and Cannes opening film “My Blueberry Nights” by Wong Kar Wai. New indie plans to release an average of 45 pics per year.
Chilena Four Films founders Matias Lira and Matias Cardone and ex Bazuca Films topper Carlos Hansen will head the company.
Consolidation is likely the best move among indies in Chile where they have struggled to capture a combined share of five percent in previous years. By striking strategic alliances with a diversity of companies ranging from gas stations to bus shelters and drug store chains, Bazuca grew to capture an 8% share of the market in 2005 and 2006.
Chilena Four Films has distributed indie pics such as “The Science of Sleep,” “Paradise Now” and “Turtle Can Fly” in Chile.
