Film chronicles the life of Clash frontman

IFC Entertainment has acquired North American theatrical and television rights to Julien Temple’s docu “Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten” from Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

Pic will premiere simultaneously in theaters and on cable video-on-demand under the company’s First Take day-and-date banner.

Music-driven biodoc, which preemed at this year’s Sundance Film Fest, chronicles the transformation of John Mellor into Joe Strummer, the late frontman of British punk band the Clash.

Pic is skedded for release on Nov. 2.
