TORONTO — Icon Prods. is acquiring sales rights to a number of GreeneStreet Films’ current productions and library titles.
As a result of their new partnership, Ariel Veneziano, currently president of GreeneStreet Films Intl., will shift over to become prexy of Icon Entertainment Intl., overseeing international sales, effective Sept. 17.
Veneziano will also be looking for possible pickups in collaboration with Mark Gooder, Icon president of acquisitions and development. IEI’s London office, headed by senior international sales manager Anthony Buckner, will report directly to Veneziano.
“Basing Ariel in our Los Angeles office alongside production and acquisitions,” said Gooder, “will bring a renewed focus to our business model and make us more competitive in the international sales community.”
GreeneStreet Films Intl. will continue operating from its L.A. office and announce the hiring of two senior executives to join the company shortly. As part of the pact, GreeneStreet Intl. and Icon are discussing future joint representation of a selection of GreeneStreet’s forthcoming films.
GreeneStreet prexy John Penotti was impressed with Icon’s handling of “Swimfan,” “Romance & Cigarettes” and “Awake,” he said.
“We’re excited by the uniqueness of this venture and the strength it potentially brings to both companies,” Penotti said. “Ariel’s newfound presence on the Icon team brings his intimate knowledge of GreeneStreet’s current productions to Icon and will provide continuity in both the sales and servicing of GSF and GSFI’s current slate.”
The partnership will bring increased visibility and opportunity for both companies, added Veneziano.
GreeneStreet’s upcoming slate includes “Tenderness,” starring Russell Crowe; “Wedding Daze,” starring Jason Biggs and Isla Fisher; “Gary the Tennis Coach,” starring Seann William Scott; “Laws of Motion,” starring Matthew Perry and Hilary Swank; and “Unknown,” starring Jim Caviezel, which Veneziano exec produced.
At Toronto, GreeneStreet Films Intl. is selling John August’s “The Nines,” which screened at the Venice Film Festival, as well as premiering “Bill,” starring Aaron Eckhart and Jessica Alba.
Icon Intl.’s slate includes Paul McGuigan’s “Push,” starring Chris Evans, Djimon Hounsou and Dakota Fanning, in partnership with Summit Entertainment; “Sleepwalking,” starring Nick Stahl, Charlize Theron, AnnaSophia Robb and Dennis Hopper; “The Black Balloon,” starring Toni Collette; and Kyle Rankin’s “Infestation.”
