Hollywood festival honors Gere

Marc Forster awarded for 'Kite Runner'

The 11th annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Awards have tapped Richard Gere to receive the actor of the year award for Miramax’s “The Hoax,” while helmer Marc Forster will be honored for DreamWorks-Paramount Vantage’s upcoming “The Kite Runner.”

Ellen Page will draw the breakthrough actress nod for her performance in Fox Searchlight’s upcoming comedy “Juno,” while Diablo Cody is set to receive breakthrough screenwriter kudos for “Juno.”

Awards will be presented during a banquet at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Oct. 22. Both the fest, which runs Oct. 17-22 at the ArcLight Cinemas, and Hollywood Awards are presented by Starz.

Other honorees at the banquet will include thesps Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en rose”), John Travolta (“Hairspray”), Casey Affleck (“Gone Baby Gone”); directors Ben Affleck (“Gone Baby Gone”) and Brad Bird (“Ratatouille”); “Hairspray” producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron; screenwriter Christopher Hampton (“Atonement”); and the ensemble cast of “Hairspray,” among others.

Gere toplined Lasse Hallstrom’s “The Hoax,” which also starred Marcia Gay Harden, Hope Davis and Alfred Molina. Gere’s in theaters with “The Hunting Party” and appears next in Todd Haynes’ “I’m Not There.”

Forster’s “Kite Runner,” based on the book by Khaled Hosseini and adapted by David Benioff, opens Nov. 2. Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Participant Prods. also produced.

Director Jason Reitman’s “Juno” opens Dec. 14.
