Universal sequel shooting at mega-facility
Universal’s “Hellboy 2” is the first major production to lense at Hungary’s new Korda Studios mega-facility, which recently opened just outside the capital.Pic is now shooting in two studios on the 84-acre complex. With a crew of 350 and an undisclosed local budget, “Hellboy 2” is reportedly the largest foreign production to be shot in Hungary to date. U’s deal with Korda is fueling speculation that the e91 million ($122 million) facility, owned by Hungarian real estate tycoon Sandor Demjan, Hollywood producer Andrew Vajna, Canadian businessman Peter Munk and U.K. financier Nathaniel Rothschild could reshape the region’s production industry by drawing business away from moviemaking centers like Prague. Another potential draw for foreign productions: changes to Hungary’s tax laws that offer foreign shoots rebates of up to 20% for every dollar spent in-country.
