Sales co acquires rights to 'Sky'

HONG KONG – International sales agent Fortissimo Films has acquired worldwide sales rights to “Eye In The Sky” (“Gun Chung”,) the crime thriller which Monday opens the Hong Kong Int’l Film Fest.

Deal with producer Sundream Motion Pictures sees Fortissimo handle the world excluding most of Asia, but including Japan and Korea.

Pic, which preemed in as part of the Forum at last month’s Berlin festival, is the directorial debut of acclaimed screenwriter Yau Nai Hoi. It was produced by Milkyway Image, the production shingle closely associated with leading Hong Kong helmer Johnnie To. Ya and To have previously collaborated on 21 movies including “The Mission,” “Election” and “Election 2.”

Starring Tony Leung Ka-fai, Simon Yam and newcomer Kate Tsui, pic follows a cat and mouse game between police and thieves following a jewelry heist.

The deal was completed by Fortissimo’s co-chairman Michael J. Werner and Sundream Motion Pictures’ VP of distribution Otto Leong.

“Yau is destined to be one of Hong Kong’s rising stars; already in his first film he has created a masterful story with a distinctive flair,” Werner said.

“‘Eye in the sky’ is a very special film for Sundream, possessing both great domestic and international potential. We knew that (Fortissimo’s) style and market expertise would serve the film and our interests well,” Leong said.
