Ford leaves National Geographic

Exec to set up own company

John Ford is stepping down from his post as executive VP of programming and production for National Geographic Channel to set up his own shingle to produce both scripted and non-fiction movies.

Ford has agreed to stay on at Nat Geo at least until August.

There are three candidates for the job internally: Heather Moran, senior VP of programming; Juliet Blake, senior VP of production; and Michael Cascio, senior VP of special programming. Outside candidates will also be considered.

One scripted theatrical movie Ford is developing is a World War II story about young naval aviators, inspired by his father’s Pacific service during the war.
