Finland picks ‘Man’s Job’ for Oscars

Pic looks at male prostitution

LONDON — Finland has selected “A Man’s Job” as its entry for the foreign language film Oscar.

Soph effort from helmer-scripter Aleksi Salmenpera stars Tommi Korpela as an unemployed man who resorts to prostitution. Salmenpera’s debut pic, “Producing Adults,” was Finland’s Oscar entry in 2004.

Pic, which also stars Jani Volanen, Maria Heiskanen and Stan Saanila, was produced by Tero Kaukomaa and Petri Jokiranta for Blind Spot Pictures.

Salmenpera’s pic won best film at Valencia’s Cinema Jove, an event for helmers aged 35 and younger, and is on the short list for the Nordic Council Film Prize. It also screened at the Rotterdam, London and Moscow film festivals, and travels to San Sebastian later this month.
