Projects previewing parts for first time at AFM

“CARRIERS”

Debut feature from Spanish writer-directors Alex and David Pastor, who won a Sundance short film prize. Post-Apocalyptic horror-thriller with Chris Pine, Lou Taylor Pucci, Piper Perabo and Emily VanCamp as four friends trying to escape a viral pandemic in the American west, only to discover they are more dangerous than any virus. Producers are Anthony Bregman and Ray Angelic. Extended promo will unspool at AFM. Vantage has domestic rights. (Sales: Paramount Vantage Intl.)

“GOOD”

Viggo Mortensen stars as a lit professor and family man whose book is unexpectedly enlisted by political figures in support of government propaganda in 1930s Germany. Cast includes Jason Isaacs and Jodie Whittaker (“Venus”); pic is helmed by Brazilian director Vicente Amorim. A trailer will show during the market. CAA handles domestic sale. (Sales: Odd Lot Intl.)

“HOW TO LOSE FRIENDS AND ALIENATE PEOPLE”

Kirsten Dunst and Simon Pegg topline in this New York publishing world satire based on Toby Young’s memoir. Comedy, shot in June, was helmed by Robert Weide from a script by Peter Straughan. Stephen Woolley’s Number 9 produced. A promo reel will be shown at AFM and to U.S. studio distribs just before the market. (Sales: Intandem)

“THE INFORMERS”

Oz helmer Gregor Jordan takes on a 1980s Los Angeles-set tale of sex, drugs and rock-and-roll, based on Bret Easton Ellis’ book. Cast includes Billy Bob Thorton, Winona Ryder, Ashley Olsen, Kim Basinger, Mickey Rourke, Rhys Ifans and Brad Renfro. Produced by Senator Entertainment. Pic started production in mid-Oct. “JOURNEY 3-D”

First live-action pic shot in hi-def

3-D. Adventure, based on Jules Verne’s novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” stars Brendan Fraser as a science professor who stumbles upon a discovery that launches him and his nephew on a journey deep beneath the Earth’s surface. Helmed by Oscar-winning vf/x vet Eric Brevig. A co-venture between New Line Cinema and Walden Media, pic is skedded for a summer 2008 release via New Line. Buyers will be shown 20 minutes of footage. Futuristic “Blade Runner”-esque thriller starring Dakota Fanning, Djimon Hounsou and Chris Evans as a group of Americans with telekinetic abilities. Paul McGuigan helms. Pic started production in Hong Kong in early October. Summit has domestic. Footage shows. (Sales: Icon/Summit Intl.)
