Lensing has started on “The One,” a propaganda film about the first Chinese competitor in the Olympics that’s part of the country’s continuing preparation for next year’s summer Olympic Games in the capital.
Based on the story of Liu Changchun, pic started lensing in the sprinter’s hometown of Dalian in the northeast.
Movie looks like solid patriotic fare about Liu, who is a hero in China for resisting pressure by Japanese occupation forces to represent the puppet state of Manchuria, where Dalian is located, at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Liu instead represented the Republic of China.
Beijing Forbidden City Film Co. is producing the film, which will star Li Zhaolin, an amateur sprinter who studied acting at the Central Academy of Drama. Pic is due to screen early next year and will also be shown to athletes attending the Games, which start at the auspicious hour of 8 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2008.
