Film Independent picks eight

Fellows selected for Directors Lab

Film Independent has selected eight fellows for its seventh annual Directors Lab, which runs through April 16.

The fellows and their projects are Eric Escobar, “Army of One”; Silas Howard, “Exactly Like You”; Joshua Leonard, “Spectacular Regret”; Alonso Mayo, “The Story of Luke”; Nicki Paluga, “The Swiss Village”; Robbie Pickering, “Natural Selection”; and Sharat Raju, “Sacred Grounds.”

Keith Gordon, director of “Waking the Dead” and “The Singing Detective,” will team teach the lab with Jeremy Podeswa, director of “The Five Senses.”

Seven-week program is designed to assist directors working in independent film to improve their craft. Guest speakers include Bill Condon, Billy Ray, Jeff Ford, Jay Duplass, Wash Westmoreland and Richard Glatzer, Catherine Hardwicke and Nicole Holofcener (“Friends With Money”); Laura Dern; and cinematographer Nancy Schreiber.
