LONDON — Europa Cinemas network will hold their 12th annual conference in Bucharest, Romania Nov. 15-18.
Event marks the third time the conference will be held in an East European capital following Prague in 2003 and Budapest in 2005.
The conference will celebrate Romania’s entry into the European Union with a confab of some 400 European exhibs, distribs and industry professionals.
Romanian cinema has enjoyed a stellar year, with Cristian Mungiu’s “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes and the late Cristian Nemescu’s “California Dreamin’ (Endless)” winning the top prize in the Un Certain Regard sidebar.
A particular focus at this year’s conference will be new technologies and preserving cinema’s diversity during the transition to digital projection.
Other sessions will also look at changes in the guidelines of Europa Cinemas’ EU-supported Media Plus program, which co-finances training initiatives for audiovisual industry professionals and the development of production projects, as well as a report back on the results of the Euromed Audiovisuel II initiative.
A dozen European pics will also be previewed to conference attendees.
Europa Cinemas is a pan-European exhib network supported by the European Commission, France’s CNC, Eurimages and the French foreign ministry.
