Euro Academy to discuss migration

Kolar to kick off Berlin event

LONDON — The European Film Academy is making migration between countries the key theme of its “Europe on the Move — Migration in Movies” confab.

The event will coincide with the 20th European Film Awards, which takes place Dec. 1 in Berlin.

French producer Cedomir Kolar (“No Man’s Land”) will open proceedings by delivering the welcome address, followed by a conversation between Brit helmer Stephen Frears (“The Queen”), and author and former Variety staffer Peter Cowie.

A series of panels, chaired by journos Thierry Chervel and Rainer Traube, and featuring international helmers Abdellatif Kechiche (“La Graine et le mulet”), Jocelyn Saab (“Dunia”) and Gela Babluani (“13”), will discuss issues such as cultural identity and the power of cinema to deliver transnational role models.

The confab is organized in association with the FFA German Federal Film Board and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenberg.
