Tom Cruise starrer hit by truck accident
Eleven extras playing German soldiers were injured Sunday evening when they fell off a truck on the set of Tom Cruise starrer “Valkyrie” in the center of Berlin, police said Monday.
While 10 of the extras were treated for minor injuries, one was hospitalized overnight for observation after the tumble near Potsdamer Platz. Authorities said his condition was not serious. Prosecutors nevertheless have started an investigation, and the vehicle involved is being inspected for technical defects.
A spokesman for producer United Artists said the truck was traveling at less than 10 mph when some of the wooden slats gave way, leaving the extras sprawled in the road.
Neither Cruise nor director Bryan Singer were at the location. The spokesman said the mishap would not have any impact on the production schedule.
Cruise plays Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, the mastermind behind a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944.
Valkyrie was the code name of the failed plot.
