Tsi cites 'personal reasons' for resigning

Peter Tsi Ka-kei has quit as executive director of the Hong Kong Film Festival.

Tsi’s abrupt departure follows mounting tension within the org over the need for more financial and promotional support from the government. The fest receives HK$7 million ($900,000) from the Arts Development Council toward a budget of $2.5 million and has been criticized for becoming too commercial as a result of its quest for private-sector sponsorship.

Tsi’s responsibilities will be shared by artistic director Li Cheuk-to and administrative director Jannie Ma while the fest seeks a replacement.

Next edition of the fest is skedded to run March 17-April 16.
