De Santiago leaves Sogecable

Future of film arm in doubt

MADRID — Simon de Santiago has ankled as director of production and international at Sogecine-Sogepaq, the film division of Spain’s TV giant Sogecable.

After nearly 11 years at Sogecine-Sogepaq owner Sogecable, De Santiago, one of Spain’s most important film execs, has decided to move onto new personal projects linked to film production.

His departure follows the recent exits of Fernando Bovaira as Sogecable general manager of contents, and Sogecine producer Gustavo Ferrada.

Sogecable has halted its film production activities and slowed international sales activity, concentrating efforts on its free-to-air channel Cuatro, which launched in November 2005.

The production freeze naturally raises questions about the future of film distributor and sales company Sogepaq, although it has a large library of pics, which could form the backbone of future biz.

Sophie de Mac Mahon, Sogecine-Sogepaq’s head of international sales, assumes De Santiago’s responsibilities.
