Comencini set for ‘Black and White’

Maiga to star in interracial love story

ROME — Oscar-nommed Italo helmer Cristina Comencini will shoot “Black and White,” an interracial romancer set in contempo Italy with Senegalese-born Gallic actress Aissa Maiga (“Bamako”) attached to star.

Cattleya and RAI Cinema are co-producing the Italo revisitation of “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” with principal photography set to start in June. RAI Cinema will release in Italy.

Hot young Italo thesp Fabio Volo (“Love Manual 2”) will play a thirtysomething Roman computer programmer who becomes passionately entangled with a Senegalese embassy employee played by Maiga, a rising star in Gaul. The fact that both lovers are married elicits suppressed racial issues to surface.

“Black and White” marks Comencini’s followup to pluriprized incest drama “Don’t Tell,” which Lionsgate released Stateside after pic was nommed for a best foreign language film Academy Award in 2005.
