Silverman to direct Bannon's 'Brinker' novels
Ann Bannon’s lesbian pulp novels about adventuress Beebo Brinker are coming to the Fourth Street Theater. The Hourglass group will produce a stage adaptation of three of the books under the title “The Beebo Brinker Chronicles.”
Leigh Silverman, who helmed Broadway’s “Well,” will direct; the cast includes Carolyn Baeumler, Autumn Dornfeld, Marin Ireland, Anna Foss Wilson and Obie winner David Greenspan. Production opens Oct. 1 following previews beginning Sept. 27.
Bannon’s seven-book series was published between 1957 and 1962 by Gold Medal Books. The author is slated to take part in a talkback session after the Sept. 30 preview.
Set in pre-Stonewall Greenwich Village, the play follows former secret college lovers who become entangled with a butch denizen of the New York bar scene.
