Channel 4, Traverse Theater pair up

Network gets first looks at plays for adaptation

EDINBURGH — Channel 4 and its movie arm Film4 have partnered with Edinburgh’s Traverse Theater to help new writers and directors make the transition between stage and screen.

In a $60,000 deal, C4 will get first look at plays being developed at the Traverse that have the potential to be adapted for film or TV.

C4 will send two directors to work at the Traverse, to improve their understanding of theater and actors.

As part of this year’s Edinburgh Festival, which is under way, the Traverse and Film4 are staging a panel on Monday about the creative crossover between stage and screen. Panelists include helmer Mike Leigh and screenwriters Simon Donald, Bill Eagles and Rona Munro.
