Official Selection gets five more titles

Five more titles have joined the Cannes Film Festival’s Official Selection, including Hou Hsiao Hsien’s provisionally titled Juliette Binoche starrer “Looking for the Red Balloon,” which will open the Un Certain Regard section.

Roy Andersson’s “You, the Living,” and “Una novia errante,” by Argentinian Ana Katz, also will screen in Un Certain Regard, completing the section.

Jean-Pierre Limosin’s “Young Yakusa” will receive a special screening (the director’s “Tokyo Eyes” unspooled in Un Certain Regard in 1998). Mehdi Charef’s “Cartouches gauloises” will screen during an evening devoted to Algeria on May 25, the festival said in a statement Wednesday.

The Hou pic, shot in Paris’ Musee d’Orsay, had been widely expected to receive a Cannes berth. Binoche is one of the talents featured on the Cannes poster this year.

The Charef film also had been tipped to rep Algeria at Cannes.

On May 2, more restored titles will be announced in the lineup of Cannes Classics, the fest said.
