Canadian actors honor own

Pinsent, Mar receive awards from ACTRA

TORONTO — Canadian thesps Gordon Pinsent and Maria Del Mar received nods as the top male and female thesps in 2006 from ACTRA, the union repping 21,000 members of the acting profession in Canada.

Pinsent received kudos for his perf in Sarah Polley’s “Away From Her,” in which he portrays a husband coping with his wife’s slide into Alzheimer’s. Del Mar was honored for her turn as a wife and mother with breast cancer in the TMN series “Terminal City.”

In addition, Len Carlson was given a posthumous ACTRA award for his voicework in “Atomic Betty.” Carlson died in 2006.

And Wendy Crewson, a thesp known for her charitable work and political activism, received the ACTRA Toronto 2007 Award of Excellence.
