Canadian Academy taps a topper

Morton replaces recently resigned Topolovich

MONTREAL — Sara Morton has been tapped as CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. She replaces Maria Topolovich, who recently resigned after holding the same position for the past 25 years. The Academy runs the Genie Awards –the Canadian film awards, and the Gemini Awards — the country’s annual TV awards.

Morton was most recently working in broadcast distribution with direct-to-home satellite service Bell Expressvu and, prior to that, she was the chief operating officer of the Ontario Film Development Corp. (now the Ontario Media Development Corp.).
