Jack Sparrow figure part of giveaway
TOKYO — Buena Vista Japan is recalling Jack Sparrow dolls given away with advance tickets to “Pirates of the Caribbean: World’s End,” the company announced on its Web site Friday.
According to Buena Vista, advance ticket buyers had complained that the package containing the 8-cm-long cloth doll had a pin in it. The company says that it is investigating the cause, though the probable culprits are the two pins holding the doll’s eye beads in place.
In the meantime Buena Vista is recalling all 100,000 of the dolls, including the 40,000 that have already been distributed to advance-ticket buyers. If buyers notice anything amiss with their package, they can exchange it for a new one, the company said.
Buena Vista has also stopped selling advance tickets for the pic on Friday, with a promise to resume sales March 31.
Buena Vista will release “Pirates of the Caribbean: World’s End” on May 25 in Japan. The previous pic in the franchise, “Pirates of the Caribbean: World’s End,” topped the Japanese B.O. among 2006 releases, with a take of $86 million.
