The Circle X Theater Company’s staging of “The Brothers Karamazov” ran away with six awards, including outstanding production, at the 2006 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle awards, held Monday at North Hollywood’s El Portal Theater. Annual event was hosted by Latino comedy troupe Culture Clash.
Also garnering production honors was Furious Theater Company’s presentation of “Grace,” staged at the Pasadena Playhouse Carrie Hamilton Theater. It received three awards, including a writing nod for scripter Craig Wright. Rounding out the production honorees was the Laguna Playhouse production of the Noel Coward biotuner “A Marvelous Party.” Garnering two nods each were Pasadena-based the Theater @ Boston Court’s “A Picture of Dorian Gray,” El Portal Theater’s ’50s tuner “The Marvelous Wonderettes” and the Mark Taper Forum’s production of “iWitness.” The Mark Taper Forum production of “Water & Power” received the special Ted Schmitt award for new play, presented to scripter Richard Montoya of Culture Clash, and a featured actor award presented to Dakin Matthews.
