Powers' comicbook follows alien war on Earth

Count Benderspink among the Hollywood players going comicbook shopping in San Diego this week.

Company has secured the film rights to “Drafted,” by Mark Powers, from Devil’s Due Publishing.

Project revolves around an alien race known as the Benefactors who arrive on Earth to help humanity defend itself from a massive invasion by another, more malevolent alien force. Social status no longer matters as every man, woman and child must now unite to save our world from annihilation as they are conscripted in a draft to battle the aliens.

Benderspink is currently talking to scribes to adapt the property. It is not yet set up at a studio.

Jon Silk will oversee the project for Benderspink.

Benderspink recently announced another comicbook adaptation, “Y: The Last Man,” set up at New Line. It also has “Ex Machina” and “Ghouly Boys” in development, and previously produced the graphic novel “A History of Violence,” based on the graphic novel.

Devil’s Due, repped by the William Morris Agency, also has an adaptation of its “Lost Squad” and “Hack/Slash” comicbook series in the works at Rogue, with Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter producing.
