Public broadcaster takes 10 prizes

LONDON — Brit pubcaster the BBC swept the boards at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Children’s Awards held Sunday, picking up 10 prizes, including channel of the year for kiddie-oriented CBeebies.

The digital channel, aimed at pre-school auds, defeated Nickelodeon U.K., Nick Jr U.K. and Scamp to take the top prize.

George Miller’s dancing penguins toon “Happy Feet” saw off competition from “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and “Flushed Away” to take home the feature film prize.

“Flushed Away” producers Aardman Animations received some consolation when the shingle won the independent production company of the year award.

BBC drama “That Summer Day,” a recreation of the July 7 terror attacks in London from a child’s perspective, won the drama prize.
