Writer/director recognized for humanitarian work

Screenwriter Richard Curtis will be honored with the humanitarian nod at the annual BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards, to be held Nov. 1.

Presented by Volvo, kudo is given to a member of the film or television industry who has devoted time and effort to philanthropy in the community.

Curtis is best known for writing hit romantic comedies such as “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Notting Hill” and “Love Actually.” In 1985, he founded U.K. Comic Relief, which has raised nearly $1 billion for charitable causes.
