Art Directors praise Harryhausen

Guild honors legendary film veteran

The Art Directors Guild has tapped Ray Harryhausen to receive its Outstanding Contribution to Cinematic Imagery Award.

Nod will be presented at the 12th annual Art Directors Guild Awards on Feb. 16 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Previous recipients include Terry Gilliam, Steven Spielberg, Zhang Yimou, Clint Eastwood, Blake Edwards, Robert S. Wise, Frank Oz, Norman Jewison and John Lasseter.

Harryhausen’s credits include “Mighty Joe Young,” “The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms,” “The 7th Voyage of Sinbad” and “Jason and the Argonauts.”

In 1992, he received a lifetime achievement Oscar for his contributions to the film industry. He has also been honored with awards from the Academy of Science Fiction and the Intl. Animation Society.
