Director to helm first Italian-language film

Mexican helmer Alfonso Arau is directing his first Italian-language film “L’imbroglio nel lenzuolo” (The Trick in the Light), starring Maria Grazia Cucinotta.

Principal photography on the $7 million drama kicked off Wednesday in Rome. Pic is produced by Cucinotta’s Seven Dreams, Madrid-based Luis Angel Bellaba’s Aquellare Prods. and Italo pubcaster RAI’s filmmaking arm, RAI Cinema.

The film traces the introduction of the first movie camera in Naples at the turn of the 20th century and the fear it cast among the locals.

Arau is in pre-production on Carlos Gardel tango biopic “Dare to Love Me,” which stars Lindsay Lohan, Raoul Bova and Jordi Molla.
