‘Zucho’ takes Prague Shorts prize

Potiera pics wins $7,300

PRAGUE — Czech auds were all ears Saturday for the Prague Shorts kudos as “Tony Zucho,” a quirky comic romance by French helmer Valentina Potiera scored the main prize and Euros 5,000 ($7,300).

Fest’s third edition honored pic, about a lovelorn boy with extreme-size ears, at Prague’s Svetozor theater, a stronghold of indie and world cinema in the city.

Honors also went to “The Saddest Boy in the World,” helmed by Canadian Jamie Travis, and the comic “Tanghi Argentini,” about a surprising Xmas gift, by Belgium’s Guido Thyse.

“Spider,” a dark laffer by Australian helmer Nash Edgarton, picked up the audience prize at the increasingly popular fest, in which 18 international pics competed this year.

New at fest was the section Ultrashorts, featuring pics no longer than 80 seconds, which engendered dozens of entries from the public, 15 named best via Internet vote. Sponsor Vodafone selected the top five and a fest jury favored three, all posted online at http://www.dostanemevaskfilmu.cz
