Wild Bunch pacts with A Film

French combo expands into Benelux

PARIS — French sales org Wild Bunch has branched out into distribution in the Benelux countries via a partnership with leading indie distrib A Film.

Deal reps the Paris-based company’s first foray into theatrical distribution outside France.

A Film will also handle video and TV sales of titles acquired by Wild Bunch for distribution.

The two combos also intend to co-produce and co-acquire films for the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.

The Dutch based A film set up in Belgium at the beginning of this year.

Eric Engelen, A Film’s Belgian topper since Dec. 1, will be responsible for co-ordinating with Wild Bunch.

Wild Bunch will be in Cannes selling high-profile titles including Woody Allen’s “Cassandra’s Dream,” Steven Soderbergh’s “Che” and Abel Ferrara’s “Go Go Tales.”

“Go Go Tales” is one of five films the company has in the Official Selection this year along with Romanian Competition pic, the abortion themed “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.”

Wild Bunch has three films in Un Certain Regard, Valeria Bruni- Tedeschi’s “Dreams of the Night Before,” “Calle Santa Fe,” Carmen Castillo’s docu about Chilean refugees, and “Terror’s Advocate,” Barbet Schroeder’s docu about the French lawyer Jacques Verges, plus the Guillermo del Toro-produced Critics’ Week title “The Orphanage” by Juan Antonio Bayona.

Among new projects, Wild Bunch will be touting “Mr. Nobody” from helmer Jaco Van Dormael (“Toto the Hero”), a E35 million ($47.6 million) English-language pic starring Jared Leto and Sarah Polley due to shoot this summer; and the $39.4 million graphic novel adaptation “Largo Winch,” to be helmed by Jerome Salle.

Both films are produced by French shingle Pan Europeene.
