Smith tunes in for Dunes

Exec to oversee creative department

Genre-producer Platinum Dunes has hired Matt Smith to oversee development and manage the company’s creative department.

Shingle, which is run by Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, has a first look deal with Rogue Pictures, the genre arm of Universal-based Focus Features.

Smith, who previously served production stints at Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road Pictures and Revolution Studios, will work on such priority projects as “Alone” and “Near Dark” at Rogue, and “Friday the 13th,” a co-production between Paramount and New Line. He’ll also be on the prowl for new material for the company, which most recently produced “The Hitcher” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.”
