120 Chinese features reached sales agreements
The 10th Shanghai Film Festival wrapped Sunday with more deals announced than in previous incarnations.
According to the fest committee, 120 Chinese films reached sales agreements during the nine days of the event.
The China Film Group-sponsored film market was the site of much of the trading. The 30 or so Chinese stallholders made an average of four sales each. Foreign film reps had a quieter time, but several contracts were signed. More than 80 deals were reached by international firms overall.
China Film Group and Jiangsu Broadcasting Corp. were reported to have boarded Lu Chuan’s “Nanking! Nanking!” as co-financiers. The $12 million film also has financing from Hong Kong-based Media Asia and Beijing’s Stellar Media.
China Film Group also signed a joint-venture contract with U.S.-based Crest Digital on a DVD and VCD production line that’s set to be the biggest disk pro-duction facility in China. Deal is reported to be worth 400 million yuan ($52.5 million).
