Austrian helmer Stefan Ruzowitzky, whose World War II drama “The Counterfeiters” unspools in Competition Saturday and first splattered on to the scene with medical horror-thrillers “Anatomy” and “Anatomy 2,” is going kid friendly.
Ruzowitzky is directing “Hexe Lilli” (Lilly the Witch), a live-action/animated pic based on the popular children’s books of German scribe Knister. Tale follows the adventures of a precocious girl who finds a book of sorcery and delves into the black arts in order to do good deeds.
Munich-based Blue Eyes Fiction and animation producer Trixter Film are producing. Trixter also produced the popular “Lilly the Witch” animated series with Ireland’s Magma Films for BBC and German pubcaster WDR.
The animated skein airs on German tyke pubcaster KiKa.
