Regions agree three-way pact

Film bodies boost co-production

CANNES — Catalonia ICIC Film Institute, Germany’s Baden Wurttemberg Film Fund and France’s Rhone-Alpes Cinema Film Fund have struck a co-production alliance.

The accord will see the three regions — Spain’s richest, France’s second- biggest regional film fund and the increasingly active Baden Wurttemberg — team to promote co-productions and distribution, as well as exchange information and talent.

First step in strengthening the three-way alliance will be a producers meeting at the Cartoon Forum,Sept. 19-23 in Girona, Catalonia, said David Matamoros, co-production exec at promotion board Catalan Films & TV.

One film taking advantage of the regional entente is Peter Sehr’s “The Anarchist’s Wives,” a tale of star-crossed husband and wife fighting fate and Franco during and after the Spanish Civil War.

Pic, planned to be ready in early 2008, will draw down money from Bavaria, Catalonia, Rhone-Alpes, Baden Wurttemberg and the Basque country.
