The first Phuket Film Festival has been set for the Thai beach resort from Sept. 30-Oct. 6.
Fest will screen some 30 features, docus and shorts during its inaugural event, which will be non-juried and include an audience award.
As well as showcasing a selection of international films, organizers aim to promote production opportunities in the region, which was hard hit by the tsunami three years ago.
“Phuket has always been right for a film festival,” said fest organizer Scott Rosenberg, “The problem has been that no modern movie theaters existed to support screening of films. Now withSF Cinema City opening world class screens on the island, Phuket is about to take its place on the roster of major international film festivals.”
Pics screening will include Spain’s “Dance Machine,” and Greece’s “A Hero in…Rome.”
A series of classic Thai films will also screen outdoors on the beach.
