U.S.-based Myriad Pictures has come on board Belladonna Prods.’ Cold War thriller “Divided.”
“Divided” is a political thriller based on the building of the Berlin Wall in the early 1960s and a young couple’s struggle, determination and ultimate sacrifice to stay together amidst the devastation.
Myriad will handle all worldwide sales.
In the lead roles are Diane Kruger, who has just been named Mistress of Ceremonies at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, and Thomas Kretschmann.
Belladonna’s producers Rene Bastian and Linda Moran are in negotiation to cast an American solider who plays a key role in the story.
Pic will be directed by animation director Michael Johnson in his live-action directorial debut. The story is loosely based on his parents’ ordeal in Germany during the Cold War.
Both Johnson and Kretschmann are of German descent with similar childhood memories of the times. The script was written by Theresa Alto and Michael Johnson.
Pic will shoot in Germany, beginning with Berlin in the summer.
