Gotham’s Museum of Modern Art will mark the 10th anni of Rialto Pictures this summer with a 17-film retrospective.
Screening series, which runs July 25-Aug. 10, will feature such films as “Rififi,” “The Third Man” and “Army of Shadows.” Last pic, a French film Jean-Pierre Melville made in 1969, resurfaced in 2006 to critical praise and grossed a surprising $741,766 in the U.S.
Bruce Goldstein, a film programmer and curator, established Rialto in 1997. In the decade since, it has released 40 pics, many of them classic foreign titles that merit broader U.S. exposure.
“Rififi,” the opening-night film of the series, will be screened with Claude Berri’s seldom-seen Oscar-winning short “Le Poulet.” Another notable item in the program is a 20-minute trailer compilation for upcoming Rialto releases, one of which is a restored version of “The Graduate.”
