Moore to rewrite, direct ‘Airborne’

Kopelson lines up filmmaker for action film

Arnold Kopelson has lined up John Moore (“Behind Enemy Lines”) to rewrite and direct “Airborne,” an action pic set on an aircraft carrier.

The producer tapped into his Equus Media development fund to acquire the original screenplay by Eric Tipton in a low to mid-six-figure deal. Kopelson said he has already secured the Dept. of Navy’s approval for the project but has no start date yet.

“We always take time with scripts to get it right,” Kopelson said. “We’re meticulous about development.”

Kopelson brokered the Equus deal earlier this year to give his shingle the means to option books, scripts and pitches without an OK from a studio (Daily Variety, Jan. 30). With wife Anne, he produced a string of successful movies through the 1990s — including “Platoon,” “Seven” and “The Fugitive” — but he hasn’t been as prolific in recent years.

Moore produced and directed last year’s remake of “The Omen” and previously helmed “Flight of the Phoenix.” He has written several shorts.

“Airborne” reps Tipton’s first solo script sale; he has previously sold scripts to Fox and TriStar with writing partner Sasha Gelbart, grandson of Larry.
