Production shingle Malon 2005 has boarded Chilean novelist’s Alberto Fuguet’s “Perdido,” one of the standouts in the Berlinale’s Works in Progress From Latin America showcase.
Pic will be produced by New York-based Catalan Daniel Aznar (“Tonight at Noon,” “Tiny Dancer”) and structured as a co-production between Barcelona-based Malon 2005, Chile’s Adobe and Fuguet’s label Cinepata. Post-production will take place in Spain.
The drama turns on a self-loathing Chilean journalist, given to cutting himself and who tries to find himself by getting lost in the Atacama Desert.
Shooting from August, pic toplines Diego Munoz, Mirella Pascal (“Whisky”), France-based Oscar Castro, Sergio Freire and Finnish rapper Tommy Lindgren.
One of Latin America’s most prominent young novelists, Fuquet’s also a member of an emerging generation of Chilean directors who look more to American pop culture and U.S. genre cinema than Europe’s auteur sensibility.
