Kassar, Feitshans form Magnetik

Slate includes 'Yuma,' 'Capone'

CANNES — Mario Kassar, most recently co-chairman and prexy of C-2 Pictures, has teamed with C-2 colleague Eric Feitshans to form international sales and distribution company Magnetik Media.

The company’s initial slate will include three previously announced projects funded by Relativity Media: Russell Crowe starrer “3:10 to Yuma,” Jackie Chan-Jet Li pic “Forbidden Kingdom” and Brian De Palma’s prequel “Untouchables: Capone Rising.”

Magnetik will consult for indie film producers on development, physical production and distribution.

The announcement comes at a fitting time for Kassar, also known for running Carolco and Cinergi, at the outset of Cannes. The fest has historically been a platform from which he has launched some of Hollywood’s biggest global blockbusters, notably several Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone actioners.

In their early days, after initially camping out on the beach in order to gain a foothold in Cannes, Kassar, along with longtime partner Andrew Vajna, soon became fest fixtures known for staging over-the-top promo bashes.

“There are few people who know how to handle studio-size independent films,” said Relativity chief Ryan Kavanagh, “and Mario’s track record and history certainly proves he understands the handling of this type of product.”

Kassar called Relativity’s quick ramp-up “unparalleled” and lauded the company for “redefining the independent marketplace.”

Feitshans finished his tenure at C-2 Pictures as exec VP and general counsel, overseeing various financing, production and distribution activities.

Prior to C-2, Feitshans held similar posts at Morgan Creek and Cinergi Pictures, where he learned about the independent scene. At Cinergi, Feitshans managed international sales company the Summit Group, which was then a joint venture between Cinergi, New Regency Pictures and Neue Constantin Films.
