Israel festival finds ‘Love’

Fest kicks off in Hollywood March 7

The Israel Film Festival will kick off with Shemi Zarhin’s “Aviva, My Love” March 7 at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Fest will offer more than 30 films, documentaries, television dramas and series at venues including the Laemmle Sunset 5 Theaters in Hollywood, WGA Theater in Beverly Hills, Laemmle in Encino and Fallbrook 7 in West Hills. Titles include “The Children of CCCP,” “Tied Hands” and “Withdrawal From Gaza.”

Gila Almagor will be honored with the festival’s lifetime achievement award at the opening-night gala March 6 at the BevHilton, presented in conjunction with the consulate general of Israel in Los Angeles. Almagor’s acting career spans nearly five decades, including “Siege,” “Queen of the Road” and “Munich.”

Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman-CEO Michael Lynton chairs the event; his SPE co-chair Amy Pascal will receive the 2007 Visionary Award that evening.

Other features screening during the fest include “Dear Mr. Waldman,” “Frozen Days,” “Little Heroes,” “Love & Dance,” “Salt of the Earth,” “Sweet Mud,” “Things Behind the Sun” and “Three Mothers.”

Documentaries include “A Hebrew Lesson,” “All Is Well by Me,” “Nadia’s Friends” and “Storm of Emotion.” TV titles include “Kululush,” “Mortgage” and “Pesya’s Necklace.”
