Cao Hamburger, helmer of Brazil’s Competition contender “The Year My Parents Went On Vacation,” is reteaming with brothers Fabiano and Ciao Gullane’s Gullane Filmes for “ICU.”
Hamburger describes his next feature as “a psycho-thriller about our relationship with death” set in a hospital intensive care unit.
He will co-produce “ICU” via his banner, Caos Prods. Gullane and Caos co-produced “Year.”
Hamburger is writing the screenplay for “ICU,” which concerns a nurse, a little girl and an old woman in a coma.
“The thriller comes from the main characters being scared to death. All the time, they’re thinking about it,” Fabiano Gullane said.
Partners aim to go into production on “ICU” in early 2008.
Hamburger will divvy up his time between “ICU” and a second project, “A Piece of Land in Berlin.”
A docupic, “Land” is about a plot once owned by Hamburger’s family in East Berlin, which was confiscated by the Nazis during the 1940s and then requisitioned by the East German Communist regime.
The land has now been returned to Hamburger’s family and is co-owned by relatives dotted around the world.
The director will begin to HD-cam-research the project while in Berlin. He plans a light-crew shoot.
“We aim to structure it as a Brazilian-German co-production and will be talking to TV operators,” Fabiano Gullane said.
